The Dollars and SENSE of Investing in our Schools

Last week, I highlighted some of our standout graduating seniors who are receiving substantial scholarships from local civic groups.

Investing in the dreams and aspirations of our youth is one of the most important investments this community can make. I said we invest so much more than money in our youth, and that’s true.

But this week, I want to talk about the money.

On Tuesday, the Moore Board of Commissioners will hold its public hearing on the proposed budget for the coming year, including the spending plan for the public school system. The school board on Monday night is expected to pass a revised request that essentially asks for about an extra $4.5 million above last year’s allocation just to maintain existing levels of service.
